  CADCAI's 37th Annual General Meeting  on Saturday 25th Novemeber at the Salvation Army Church Hall, Haore St , Manunds on Saturday 25th November 2023 at 2.00pm. Members and friends of CADCAI or members of the public interested in furthering Chinese langauge, culture and heritage in Cairns are encouraged to attend. This is an opportunity to learn more about your community organisation, the work it does and how it operates. It is also a great time to consider contributing and giving back to the community as volunteer. Please nominate as a committee member, or join one of our sub-committies.

The  Chinese Moon Festival  aka  Mid - Autmn Festival is coming   (八月十五  - 15th day of the 8th month)  It's traditonally a time for family outings to enjoy a picnic and watch and appreciate the beautiful new moon at this time of year. Moon cakes, and lanterns carried by children are asssociated with this festival. The celebrate, CADCAI is organising a family picnic and gathering at the Fig Tree Play Ground, Cairns Esplanade on Saturday, 10th September starting from 4.30pm to 7.30pm.  It's time to get lanterns ready for  you or your children to bring on the day. CADCAI will provide mooncakes and drinks will be available for purchase,  WHAT ELSE TO BRING A plate of food to  share Something to sit on e.g  a large mat, cushion, or chair N.B. Dont forget your lanterns! Qing Ming Festival Outing to Cairns Pioneer & Martyn St Cemeteries When:  Sunday 10 April, 2022    TIME:  9.00am- 11.00am             9.00 am to 10.00am  -  Mc Leod St Pioneer Cemetery Visit the heritage-listed Cairns Pioneer Cemetery to honour over 200 Chinese who were buried here in mostly in ummarked graves. In the Chinese tradition we will bring offerings of food and wine and burn incense. 10 am -11.00am -   Martyn St Cemetery Visit several known sites to honour the early Cairns community starting at Andrew Leon and Mary Leon Piggot's grave and memorial headstone which was installed by Julia Volkmar and the Hap Wah Research Project in June 2020 . Other sites will include key Chinese early settlers and  families. Please wear comfortable walking shoes, bring water and a hat. You may also like to bring cut flowers if you have any growing in your garden to leave beside the graves. History Talk: Reviving Qing Ming

Reviving Qing Ming Join us for a short historical presentation by NQ Chinese historian Dr Sandi Robb and CADCAI's own Heritage Manager Mary Low, to learn about Qing Ming and how it was celebrated in Cairns. Also known as the Pure Brightness Festival, this calendar event honours the ancestors of Chinese families and pays respects to those buried in Cairns Cemeteries.  This talk at the CADCAI centre wil be folllowed by a short walking tour and small honouring ceremony at the Pioneer and McLeod Street Cemeteries on Sunday 10 April at 9.00am. The Lantern Festival is celebrated on the 15th day of the Chinese Lunar New Year and marks the end of the traditional Chinese New Year festivities. Write your new year hopes, dreams and wishes on floating lanterns which will be lit and released from the Western edge of the Lagoon to create  sea of lights for an unforgettable spectacle.  Lanterns may be purchased on-site from the CADCAI mercvhandise stall. Performances by CADCAI dragon and lion teams, Taichi and Mugendai drumming. For convenience of COVID contract tracing, booking your free tickets here you can avoid having to supply them on site.

Chinese New Year Gala Dinner

The Chinese New Year Gala Dinner celebrates the reunion of family and friends with a Chinese-style buffet at the Trinity Room, Shangri-la. The menu includes mouth-watering dishes such as steamed Barramundi, crispy beef fillet, braised tong poh pork belly. (Full menu is below)     The evening is an opportunity to network and catch up with friends and family, with entertainment being provided by the Chinese lion team, Molihua dancers, and Chinese instrumental music. Seating is limited due to Covid restrictions and bookings are essential. Bookings need to be closed by the 6th February. Be quick to avoid disappointment.
