The VEXPO is a community event that will showcase a range of Volunteer opportunities that are available for Cairns people of all abilities and ages to join groups and build social connection around common interests. So much fantastic work is being achieved within the community and the VEXPO will provide an opportunity to learn more about the organisations as well as the benefits of volunteering in Cairns. The 2016 VEXPO will feature over 30 social, cultural, artistic, recreational and sporting not-for-profit groups that operate in Cairns. There will be performances and live demonstrations throughout the day as well as exhibitive displays and a diverse mix of activities for the general public to participate in. We welcome the Cairns community to this exciting event and look forward to welcoming you to the VEXPO.

The Cairns and District Chinese Association Inc. cordially extends an invitation to all members past and present to the 2016 Annual General Meeting, marking the 30th year of Incorporation of the Association. Saturday 12th November 2016 at The Cairns Revival Centre, on 58 Arthur Street, Manunda (off Little Street), starting at 2pm. The Annual General Meeting of CADCAI will be held at the Cairns Revival Fellowship, 58-60 Arthur St, Manunda QLD 4870 - opposite the ARC Disability Centre on Little Street. This venue is adjacent to our block of land for our proposed Cultural & Heritage Centre. Attendants are requested to bring a plate of food to share following formalities. The Babinda Harvest Festival is an annual Babinda event. In this sugar town, it celebrates the start of the sugarcane harvest as well as celebrating the harvesting of other tropical produce from our region -- bananas, pawpaws, tropical flowers and vailla to name a few. The 2016 event will be held on Saturday the 22nd of October at the Babinda Showgrounds. The Street parade starts at 3:30pm and there wil be fireworks at 9pm. The Chinese Lunar Festival is known in China as the Mid-Autumn Festival, we chose to call it the Chinese Lunar Festival so as not to confuse people since it is actually Spring in the Southern Hemisphere. The festival celebrates unity and family bonds and is considered the most important festival of the year by many Chinese families. This event is BYO so there is no cost to attend, everyone is asked to bring a plate of food to share with everyone else. At this festival it is traditonal to bring and light up colourful lanterns which are paraded by the children and adult too!   For your convenience here is a checklist of what not to forget : - Your own plates, cups and cutlery Drinks (an esky with ice will be provided) don't forget to put your Name on it. Something to sit on - ie picnic blanket, chairs etc. Friends and family. A plate of food to share A healthy appitite. And a beautiful lantern (optional, however traditional, hand-made is ususally better)

More than 40 Cultural Communities – almost 500 people, from children to seniors – take part in CAIRNS Tropical Wave Cultural Festival, either as participants, and performers, volunteers, food stall vendors and in many other roles. The Multicultural Festival sees thousands of people from all walks of life, enjoying the event. We received significant financial support from Multicultural Affairs Queensland Government and from Cairns Regional Council, and generous in-kind support from Inner City Precinct (Cairns Council), Migrant Settlement Services, we also acknowledge the support we have received from the Media, in particular ABC Radio, Zinc Rock, and 89.1 Cairns Community Radio Station. CARMA would especially like to thank the many volunteers who give untold hours of their time to put on Tropical Wave Cultural Festival.  We hope the public continue to enjoy the cultural show and feasting – Several hundred people attend Tropical Wave Multicultural Festival, which continues to grow each year. Tropical Wave Cultural Festival is an independent, community-based event run by community volunteers for the benefit of the community based on strong participation by multicultural communities. The community owns, organise and produce Tropical Wave Cultural Festival for the entire Cairns and region. It is a showcase for the many cultures that now call Cairns home. Cairns And Region Multicultural Association operated by community, for community. Entertainment – traditional and contemporary; Several Hours of traditional and contemporary performances from around the world. Single performances to groups of up to 40 people performing traditional cultural music and dance. Food stalls from different culture, Children's workshops, Craft demonstrations, Community stalls, Government and Information stalls. Enjoy the tastes from the international food stands, browse the traditional arts & craft stalls, or get involved in the children's workshops and cultural displays. Tropical Wave Cultural Festival is a chance to explore, expose and celebrate Far North Queensland's rich and diverse cultural and contemporary background. The festival aims to highlight and strengthen the fabrics of culture; maintaining, developing, and enhancing our cultural identity. All while enjoying the art, craft, music, song, dance, story-telling, workshops, demonstrations and food of our diverse region. eg; Japanese, Chinese, Polish, Croatian, Dutch ,German, Greek, Indonesian, Italian, Polynesian, Korean, Papua New Guinea, Irish, Scottish, Tibetan, Russian ,Ukrainian, South American, Serbian, Indian, Scandinavian, Sri Lankan, Filipino, Bhutanese more.
