Holding Redlich CNY Yum Cha Business Lunch

Tue, 12 Feb 2019
12:00 PM - 02:30 PM

The 2019 Corporate Yum Cha Lunch guest speaker, Dr Carl Hinze, Partner and Head of China Practice of national law firm, Holding Redlich, will discuss some of the key aspects in a business sense of being China Fit.  He discuss key cultural values and their impact on commercial relationships; and look at common differences in the way business is done in Australian and China

Last year marked 40 years since China first embarked on reform and opened up to the outside world. The enormous advances that China has made since the early 1990s are a global phenomenon. In 1990, China was the number one trading partner for four countries. In 2016, it was the number one trading partner for well over 40 countries. During this time, Australia has developed a large economic dependency on China. But while there has been a natural evolution of Australia’s relationship with China from trade, to investment, to stronger people connections, Australia needs to do more to frame, understand and develop the Australia-China relationship. We need to get more “China fit”.

With his insight into how language and culture affect the legal and business situation in China and Australia, Dr. Carl has helped clients to manage, mitigate and avoid risks arising in the context of China-related mergers and acquisitions, crisis management, anti-corruption and bribery investigations, and dispute resolution.

Dr. Carl will be joined by Sara Cheng - Head of International Business, Australian Business Solutions Group / NSW Business Chamber.

Sara has over 25 years experiences in China and Australia, specialising in China business strategy development, distribution channel management, and merger & acquisition. She will discuss the outlook for trade and investment opportunities with China. Sara will identify real opportunities for Tropical North Queensland.

Sara is a well-respected writer, thought leader and a most sought-after China business expert in Australia. She actively promotes bilateral trade and investment between Australia and China, and co-authored the book “Engaging China-The Realties for Australian Businesses.” She has personally assisted over 300 Australian businesses including some iconic brands across a broad range of industry sectors to do business with China successfully. Sara will give very practical advice about doing business in the China market which is so critical for Cairns and Australia.
